DAY 1: Rome/Naples
Welcome to Italy! Upon airport arrival, we shall be waiting to transport you to Naples. We venture south through the landscapes of Lazio and Campania. Naples is one of the oldest, continuously inhabited cities in the world. So it is somewhat ironic that its name comes from the Greek for “new city”. The history of Naples covers a span of some 2700 years or so. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 7 pm with your Travel Director. Dinner with your fellow travel companions at a local restaurant. Overnight stay at the hotel. Meals included: Dinner.

DAY 2: Pompei/Naples
This morning we visit Pompeii for a guided tour of the archaeological excavations. This ancient Roman city was destroyed when Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD and buried it, preserving it under a sea of volcanic ash for nearly 1700 years. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon we continue to Naples. Free time for a stroll along the seafront promenade. Overnight stay at the hotel. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

DAY 3: Capri Island/Naples
In the morning we board to the hydrofoil that will take us to the most famous island in Campania: Capri. Nicknamed the “Queen of Rock” by Pablo Neruda, it has always been associated with glamorous and elite tourism, a description that only partially reflects this island, that through its panoramas from above, its views, alleys and squares will make us daydream and engender intimate and unique emotions. Lunch in a local restaurant to taste authentic Neapolitan pizza. In the afternoon come back to Naples and walk around the city centre, discovering Piazza del Plebiscito, Palazzo Reale, Galleria Umberto I and Teatro San Carlo. Overnight stay at the hotel. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

DAY 4: Naples/Sorrento/Amalfi Coast
After breakfast we depart from Naples to begin the daydream of the Amalfi Coast. The first stop will be for a walk in Sorrento, the capital of “limoncello”, the ubiquitous local liquer, located on the opposite side of the Gulf of Naples. We will leave for Positano which deserves at least one stop for a photo from above and continue with an inevitable stop in Furore, the nowhere village, suspended between mountain and sea. Lunch in a local restaurant. Our journey continue to Amalfi to see, arguably, some of the most beautiful spots on the earth. Overnight stay at the hotel in Amalfi Coast. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

DAY 5: Amalfi Coast/Paestum/Matera
In the morning we visit Paestum and its Archaeological Park, founded by the Greeks in 600 BC. Now it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunch in a local restaurant. Our journey continues to another UNESCO World Heritage Site: Matera’s Sassi, a labyrinth of cave dwellings, churches, staircases and arches, hewn out of the solid rock. We may recognise Matera as the biblical backdrop for the film “The Passion of the Christ”. Overnight stay at the hotel. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch.

DAY 6: Matera/Castel del Monte/Bari/Alberobello/Matera
Today we explore the region of Puglia and its most spectaculars towns. We stop for a guided tour of the UNESCO-protected Castel del Monte. We step inside the 13th-century structure, which is known as a masterpiece of medieval military architecture. We continue our journey to Bari to visit the most beautiful spots in the city and hear all the city’s stories. Our tour begins with visiting the main attractions of the old town. These include the Basilica of Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus) and its precious Crypt, the ancient Cathedral of Saint Sabinus, and the millenary Swabian Castle. Stop several times for tastings. In a panificio (bakery) learn how focaccia barese is made and taste a slice of this delicious fresh Italian bread. Visit a salumeria (delicatessen) to find out about different kinds of cheeses and salami while drinking a glass of wine. In one particular traditional corner of the town, discover fried street food with the strong flavors of sgagliozze and panzerotti. In a gelateria, enjoy real home-made ice cream choosing your favorite one from a fantastic selection. In the afternoon continue to Alberobello, a UNESCO world heritage site, where we explore the small, white-washed stone houses – known as Trulli – which are clustered together throughout the city and built entirely without mortar. We come back in Matera. Overnight stay at the hotel. Meals included: Breakfast, Bari streetfood walking tour (Light lunch).
